About Ross Mason
Ross Mason is a venture philanthropist focused on making GA a national and global leader health innovation. Originally from Madison, Georgia, Ross became passionate about healthcare after volunteering at an AIDS hospital in Zambia the summer of 1999. In 2004, he created HINRI (the Healthcare Institution for Neuro-Recovery and Innovation) which is a venture philanthropy.
In 2005, HINRI raised $600,000 for the GA Charity Care Network and helped the organization grow from 5 faith based clinics to 105 member clinics that provided free medical care to 325,000 Georgians in 130 counties and saved the state over $400MM in 2011. In 2009, HINRI co-founded the GA Warrior Alliance to help make GA the number 1 state in the country for programs serving military families. In 2010, HINRI helped Jacob's Ladder, a school for autistic children, raise $2MM and develop partnerships in China, Israel, Egypt and the UAE. In 2011, HINRI opened a spinal cord rehab center in Alpharetta and has established partnerships with 5 other rehab centers across the US.
In his professional life Ross is an entrepreneur, angel investor, and strategic advisor. He lived and worked in San Francisco from 1999 to 2004 where he started and sold a healthcare software company. He also worked for Volkswagen’s Healthcare Venture Accelerator Fund in Germany, was an Associate in Private Banking at Morgan Stanley, and created a real estate investment and development company in Moscow, Russia that he owned and operated for 12 years. Today, he is an investor in and board member of a number of healthcare companies.
Prior to his accident, Ross was actively involved in triathlons, wreck, cave, and ice diving, surfing, rock and ice climbing, and was a NASCAR certified driver. Today, Ross uses that same energy and enthusiasm to explore new therapies, treatments, and scientific breakthroughs to improve the quality of life for those suffering from spinal cord injury, brain trauma, and neurological diseases. His objective in all of his activities is to turn knowledge into practice to transform lives.
He holds a bachelors degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech and a masters of business administration in finance from The Wharton School. He also studied literature and history at Oxford and Russian at Middlebury College.
